Architecture has always attracted me and I am sure that it will attract me in the future, especially ancient architecture, no matter what culture it belongs to. Such old cities as Evpatoria at every step «shout» with every brick about the cultural and historical events that they saw.
Evpatoria is a very ancient city, its history dates back to the 5th century BC. e., even from Greek settlements, then Turkish possessions and later Crimea entered the Russian Empire. How many religious architectural (acting!) masterpieces coexist in Evpatoria within walking distance from each other! Just the perfect city to study religious studies.
One of the oldest buildings (creations of ancient architects) is presented in today’s article. Sufi mosque Tekiye dervishes of Juma-Jami, founded in the 14th-15th centuries. You cannot visit this historical site without an excursion, the beginning of the excursion seems to be at the beginning of every hour, but I could be wrong. And by the way, the guide told about the mosque in great detail, with humor and insanely interesting.
The simplicity of forms, the absence of any decorations both on the facades and inside. Above is a large dome with a diameter of 9.5 meters. Walls and floors made of hewn stones.
The figurine of the dancing Dervish, which can be spun, is very symbolic. The figurine of the dancing Dervish, which can be spun, is very symbolic. Minaret of one of the buildings of the mosque Minaret of one of the buildings of the mosque
Inside the mosque, the atmosphere of those times when it was built is preserved. There is nothing modern except for low lighting and chairs here. Dervishes still periodically dance their mysterious dance here.
In these rooms, the dervishes retire to pray. In these rooms, the dervishes retire to pray.
At the mosque there is a museum of ethnography, there is a history not only of this mosque, but also of Islam in all manifestations on the territory of Evpatoria: clothing, weapons, art, dishes and various national subtleties. Very interesting!
Ancient art and fine craftsmanship:
One of the buildings of the mosque (which has a minaret) is partially destroyed. I really hope that cultural monuments will be restored. Inside the mosque, there is amazing acoustics, there are now periodically (albeit rarely) Dervish dances. Now there is a goal, to see such a dance «live».
